Designed to be engulphed by the garden over time, the house is enmeshed with planting, forming different spaces and outlooks from within. The native meadow of indigenous ‘Wallaby Lawn’ grows long to flower and set seed, offering seasonal habitat, already it is animated by insects and frequented by local birds looking for a feed.

Later, the grasses can be mown for use, a space for a few chairs and a table during the warmer months. An extension to an existing cottage in Thornbury, Vivarium has been designed in sympathy with its environment and with a view to best practice in sustainability, minimising environmental impact and contributing to local biodiversity.
